V-Force Coin

The aircraft that formed the RAF's strategic nuclear strike force during the 1950s and 1960s were known officially as the V-force. The strategic bombers, whose names all started with the letter "V", included the Vickers Valiant (first flew 1951, entered service 1955), Avro Vulcan (first flew 1952, in service 1956) and Handley Page Victor (first flew 1952, in service 1958). The V-Bomber force reached its peak in June 1964, with 50 Valiants, 70 Vulcans and 39 Victors in service.

This coin celebrates the iconic V-force aircraft. The obverse displays a black planform of each type overlaid on a Union Flag backdrop, surrounded by the name of each aircraft and their collective name of V-Force.

The reverse displays the 3 planforms in white, recognising the anti-flash white scheme commonly seen on the V-force, overlaid on the RAF roundel. The outer edge displays the name of each aircraft and their collective name.

At 1 3/4 inches (45mm) in diameter, the coin is 3mm thick and weighs 35 grams.

It comes complete in a black presentation box.
