Donald Campbell CBE - Bluebird K7 Coin

On 4th January 1967 Donald Campbell made his fateful World Water Speed Record attempt on Coniston Water.

Whilst carrying out the second of two runs required to set a new record at a speed of over 300mph Campbell’s craft, Bluebird K7, left the surface and climbed into the air before crashing into the water. Campbell, one of the most prolific World Speed Record breakers that ever lived, was killed instantly on impact.

This coin commemorates the event and also celebrates Donald Campbell as an icon of the British derring-do spirit.
  • Struck in the heart of the jewellery quarter in Birmingham from bronze before being silver plated, the obverse of this coin features Bluebird at full speed across Coniston.
  • The reverse carries an embossed image of Donald Campbell with his signature, using an innovative high quality photo-print process over a textured backdrop.
The coin measures 50mm in diameter weighs 55 grams and is supplied in a fitted presentation box with the Bluebird logo in silver on the lid.

This edition is fully endorsed by Donald's daughter, Gina Campbell QSO, and at her request, a contribution from each coin sold by the supplier is donated to the Ruskin Museum on the edge of Coniston Water where the salvaged and restored Bluebird K7 craft will eventually reside on public display.
