RAF100 series: Lightning and Hunter

To recognise 100 years of the RAF we are offering a series of 10 coins featuring some of the most loved and iconic aircraft from the history of the Royal Air Force, up to the present day. Licensed by the Ministry of Defence, the collection includes aircraft types such as the Typhoon, Lancaster, Spitfire, Hurricane and of course a coin featuring the V-Force: Vulcan, Victor and Valiant.

• Featured on one side of this coin is one of the most revered aircraft from the RAF's history - the English Electric Lightning. 30 years on from its retirement, the Lightning is still a crowd puller at Bruntingthorpe where the Lightning Preservation Group maintains two aircraft in fast taxying condition.
• The reverse of the coin depicts the Hunter, an aircraft famous for its sleek lines. The Hunter is shown in No. 4 Flying Training School colours from its time at RAF Valley in Anglesey, Wales, when it made up part of the RAF fast jet training syllabus.
